Jordan King, the University of Richmond’s standout guard, has taken the next step in his basketball career, signing his first professional contract with UA Fundacion Lucentum Alicante, a team in the Spanish Tercera FEB league.
This move comes after a remarkable season with the Richmond Spiders, where King led his team to its first Atlantic 10 regular season championship in the 2023-24 season.
King, who earned his master’s degree in liberal arts in May, had a stellar senior year with the Spiders, averaging 18 points per game, 2.5 assists and shooting an impressive 41.4% from beyond the three-point line. His performance placed him among the Atlantic 10’s best players: He ranked third in scoring, second in three-point shooting percentage, fifth in minutes per game and 12th in steals per game.
His outstanding season did not go unnoticed. King was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Year, sharing the honor with Dayton’s DaRon Holmes.
He became only the third player in Richmond history to receive the award, joining Kevin Anderson (2009-10) and TJ Cline (2016-17). Additionally, King was selected to the A-10 All-Academic Team and was a First Team All-Conference pick by both the A-10 and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). He was also named to the nominee list for the prestigious Oscar Robertson Trophy and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-American Watch List.
King’s signing with Lucentum Alicante marks a significant milestone in his career, becoming the 33rd player coached by Chris Mooney, who is now entering his 20th season with Richmond and playing professionally. He joins fellow Richmond players Neal Quinn, who recently signed with Aix Maurienne in France, and Isaiah Bigelow, who joined Zalakeramia ZTE KK in Hungary, and is looking to pursue a professional career overseas.
