Whalley Little League from Surrey, British Columbia, secured the last international bid for Little League Baseball 2024® World Series (LLBWS) presented by T-Mobile with a 10-1 victory in the Canada Region Championship game.
Whalley LL won the regional championship 7-1, making it seven straight wins after losing to Medicine Hat LL in the first game. The championship game was a rematch of that matchup, as Whalley LL avenged their 2-0 loss with a resounding 10-1 victory to secure the final spot on the international side of the LLBWS. Although Whalley LL did not concede a goal in the first game of the tournament, the game ended with 64 runs scored.
This will Whalley LL’s seventh trip to Williamsport, Pennsylvaniaand the 11thth This is the 27th time that a team from Surrey has secured a place in the LLBWS.th For the first time, Canada was represented in the tournament by British Columbia, more than any other province in the country’s 64 LLBWS appearances. Whalley LL’s most recent appearance in the LLBWS was in 2018, when the team lost in its first game but fought elimination for two games before losing in Game 21. Soccer star Sydney Leroux played baseball in the Whalley LL program as a child and competed in the Canada Region Tournament in 2002. She was inducted into the Little League Hall of Excellence in 2017. Last year’s regional champion, North Regina LL, went 1-2 before being eliminated by the regional champion from Mexico.
With the Matches in the first round for the LLBWS 2024, announced on 12 June, just one week after the anniversary of the very first Little League game and in the heart of the 65th As part of the National Little League Week celebration, Whalley LL will begin Game 3 of the tournament on Wednesday, August 14 at 5:00 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium against Kuei-Shan Little League of the Asia-Pacific region.
