Just recently, on August 9, the Polish Defense Agency signed a contract with the United States for the supply of several hundred AIM-120C AMRAAM air-to-air missiles from the US defense giant RTX.
We know that
Poland’s Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Bejda said that the ordered AMRAAM missiles will be delivered to the Polish armed forces between 2029 and 2033. These missiles will be used on F-16 and F-35 fighter jets.
It is also possible to integrate this weapon system into the FA-50 jets that Poland purchased from Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI).
The Polish government does not disclose the exact number of AMRAAMs ordered, but it is known that the value of the contract is estimated at $850 million. It is also worth mentioning that in March the US State Department approved the sale of up to 745 missiles to Poland, as well as 50 LAU-129 air-to-air missile systems. The potential order is worth about $1.7 billion.
For those who don’t know
The AIM-120C AMRAAM is a modern air-to-air guided missile. It is used to combat aircraft, drones and cruise missiles at medium range. The AIM-120C has active radar guidance, which allows it to aim independently after launch. The “C” version has a reduced wing area to better accommodate it in the interiors of combat aircraft. It has a range of up to 105 km and can attack targets beyond line of sight. The AIM-120C is widely used in the armed forces of many NATO countries.
