Beyoncé Knowles-Carter not only focuses on black cowboys and horse riding culture in her music, the superstar also continues to campaign for these issues through her foundation.
The BeyGOOD Foundation, one of the award-winning artists, accompanies the annual Bill Pickett Rodeo and provides grants of $500,000 through its
Equestrian program that supports black cowboys, cowgirls, farmers and ranchers. The Bill Pickett Invitational is currently celebrating its 40th year
Rodeo is the longest running black rodeo in the country and the premier event for black cowboys and cowgirls.
BeyGOOD has already participated in the Bill Pickett Rodeo stops in Los Angeles and Atlanta and awarded grants of $25,000 to several organizations, including Urban Saddles, I love this horse And Horse rescue in Los Angeles, The Black Cultural Enlightenment Society/Black Cowboy Festival, The South Carolina Black Farmers Coalitionand SOOFA Ranch in Atlanta.
BeyGOOD, the initiative founded in 2013 by a global cultural icon to support people and programs around the world, is now the BeyGOOD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity.
“I am incredibly proud of the work we have been doing at BeyGOOD for over a decade, here in the U.S. and around the world,” said Beyoncé, founder of BeyGOOD. “From providing scholarships for the water crisis in Burundi to helping families during Hurricane Harvey in my hometown of Houston, it has been beyond fulfilling to be able to help. As a foundation, we will now continue our work and engage partners through innovative programs to reach even more people.”
Kendall Rae Johnson, 9, was another recipient of the BeyGOOD
Equestrian grants. The young person is the owner of Green Heart and the youngest farmer in the state of Georgia.
“We are deeply grateful to the BeyGOOD Foundation. We didn’t know this would happen. These funds will go a long way in helping us support generations of black farmers, and this kind of support is really fundamental,” said one of the grantees.
