According to a statement to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), Turkish Airlines (THY) recorded a 2.6% decrease in passenger numbers in July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.
Despite the decline in overall passenger traffic, the airline saw increases in other key performance indicators.
Growth in international remittances
The number of international transfer passengers increased by 6.8% from 2.7 million in July 2023 to 2.9 million in July 2024. This upward trend underlines the airline’s continued strength in the international market, despite the overall decline in passenger numbers.
The passenger load factor for July 2024 decreased by 0.5 percentage points compared to July 2023 and stood at 85.2%. International flights recorded a load factor of 84.3%, while domestic flights reached a higher rate of 93.3%.
Freight and mail transport also recorded significant growth. The total volume transported in July 2024 increased by 20.7 percent to 172,100 tons, compared to 142,600 tons in the same month last year.
Overview January-July 2024
From January to July 2024, Turkish Airlines carried 48.9 million passengers, an increase of 3.5% compared to the 47.3 million passengers in the same period in 2023. The number of international transfer passengers increased by 7.6% during this period, reaching 18.2 million compared to 16.9 million last year.
The passenger load factor for the first seven months of 2024 decreased by 0.8 percentage points to 81.5%. International flights had a load factor of 81%, while domestic flights reached 86%.
At the end of July 2024, Turkish Airlines’ fleet consisted of 458 aircraft. These traffic figures include consolidated data from the main brand Turkish Airlines and AJet.
