Clear Mobilitel Ltd., a UK-based technology data company, has announced plans to invest US$200 million in Zimbabwe’s telecommunications sector. The move is in line with the Second Republic’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign investment and promote the country’s economic growth.
Clear Mobitel’s decision to invest in Zimbabwe comes at a time of growing interest from several global players, driven by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ policy and the country’s progress in connecting or reconnecting to the international community.
Clear Mobitel specializes in advanced technologies including cloud computing, IP bandwidth, internet connectivity, 5G, data centers, the Internet of Things (IoT), mobile broadband, fixed wireless access (FWA), and autonomous vehicles. The company also provides telemedicine, artificial intelligence, big data, data analytics, 5G private networks, eSIM, and more. Notably, Clear Mobitel combines core 5G technology with data-driven artificial intelligence and machine learning platforms.
Speaking at Pricabe Farm last Friday, Clear Mobitel CEO Harpal Mann expressed his enthusiasm for the investment. “I am happy that we have managed to have some fruitful discussions with the government. I am impressed with the country’s business environment and am willing to invest US$200 million due to Zimbabwe’s pro-business policies,” he stated.
Mann, who attended the recently concluded Industrialisation Week (SIW), praised Zimbabwe’s favourable investment environment. “We want to start in Zimbabwe where we find a favourable business environment. Our aim is to eventually expand our services throughout the SADC region,” he added.
Clear Mobitel’s investments focus on infrastructure, technology and services and are expected to make a significant contribution to Zimbabwe’s economic growth.
In addition, Clear Mobilel cooperates with NEC Corporationa Japanese multinational information technology and electronics company, is to provide advanced technologies that will enhance Clear Mobitel’s offering in Zimbabwe.
Earlier this year, Clear Mobitel and NEC announced the launch of NEC’s 5G Standalone (SA) Cloud Native Core Network solution in the UK to accelerate the deployment and rollout of advanced 5G services. The initiative with NEC is designed to accelerate the deployment and rollout of advanced 5G services. Clear Mobitel will leverage the 5G core technology to support its software-centric ecosystem approach and remain agile and responsive to customer needs.
