Elle King has claimed that her father Rob Schneider once sent her to a “fat camp” when she was a child.
In an edited teaser of an interview for Bunnie XO’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast released over the weekend, the “Ex’s & Oh’s” singer opened up about the complicated relationship she has with her famous father.
Elle, who was largely raised by her mother London King, admitted she hadn’t spoken to Rob for “four or five years” until she released her debut album Love Stuff in 2015.
“I released my record and people finally started asking me about my dad. My dad called me and said, ‘Don’t f***ing talk about me in the press,'” she claimed, before alleging he sent her to “diet camp” as a girl. “I was a really, really heavy kid. My dad sent me to diet camp. And then I got in trouble for a year because I sprained my ankle and didn’t lose weight.”
The footage then switched to Elle saying, “Very toxic and very silly.”
The “America’s Sweetheart” star also claimed that her father “forgot every single birthday.”
“I spent my 18th birthday at summer school and they brought me cupcakes and I came home and my dad had forgotten my birthday,” she recalls.
Elsewhere in the teaser, Elle emphasized that she disagrees with her father on many points.
“You talk shit out of your ass and you talk shit about drag and, you know, gay rights and it’s like you’re getting fucked,” she said, apparently referring to the Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo actor. “He just talks shit out of his ass and I want to take this opportunity to say that I don’t agree with that. I don’t agree with what he’s saying.”
In addition, Elle claimed that the former Saturday Night Live cast member “never helped” her with her music career.
“I never wanted his help. He didn’t have a very good reputation either. I don’t want to be associated with him. He’s just not nice. You can want so much for someone to change. You can’t control other people’s actions. You can’t control other people’s feelings. You can only control how you react and what you do with your feelings,” the singer mused. “And sometimes I just f***ing boil over and explode and f***ing explode.”
Representatives for 60-year-old Rob have not yet commented on the interview.
The full podcast conversation is scheduled to be released on Monday.
