MARINETTE (WLUK) — Friends of a Little Suamico man who went missing after his sailboat capsized last month have organized another search effort in the community.
Bill Salnik, 32, and his two children went sailing on July 13. Officials said their planned route was from Green Island in the bay to a marina south of Oconto, but they never reached their destination.
On July 15, their capsized sailboat, My Lady Blue, was found in Door County waters south of Chambers Island, without Salnik and his children.
Later that day, search crews recovered the bodies of five-year-old Charlotte and three-year-old Joshua about a mile south of where the sailboat was found. Both children were wearing life jackets.
Salnik’s friends have planned another search of the community in hopes of bringing him home, beginning at 8 a.m. Sunday in Menekaunee Harbor, according to a Facebook event organized by Mike Balzola.
“As time has passed and more information has come to light, we are planning another day of searching to find our friend/family member Bill Salnik,” the event description states. “We are asking for all the help we can get!”
We are asking EVERY BOAT that may be in the bay to show up! We need 4 boats with sniffer dogs and any boats with sonar/livescope/panoptic/underwater cameras to join in!
We have new information and locations we will be working on! If you can come with a boat, please, please come if you can!
Anyone without a boat or access to a watercraft is asked to bring binoculars/rangefinder and walk the banks to scan the water surface.
“Let’s give the family peace and try again! We all want to bring Billy home!” the description concludes.
