Black & Learned (https://www.blackandscholared.com/) is leading a revolution in college dress aimed at promoting African American excellence and advancing higher education within the African American community (https://www.blackandscholared.com/pages/impact). With its premier HBCU apparel line, the brand remains at the forefront of the HBCU community’s booming college apparel industry and offers black students a scholarship fund for tuition and living expenses.
Each year, fewer Black students (22.6% in 2023) are enrolled in college than the national average of 32.9%. This requires immediate action. Kamirria Wallace (https://www.blackandscholared.com/), a Howard University graduate and founder of Black & Scholared, commented, “Education is our way out of the glaring wealth gap in the black community, so it’s time to reverse these statistics. Now more than ever, we must empower more black students to achieve their dream of higher education and help them finance that dream.”

The college apparel industry has played a critical role in celebrating and promoting higher education within the Black community. As a graduate of an HBCU, Kamirria took on the challenge of creating a stylish brand that combines college apparel with a focus on transforming the HBCU community. From its unwavering commitment to purpose-driven, mission-focused college apparel to its HBCU pride, Black & Scholared has established itself as a trailblazer in the college apparel industry. The fashion-forward apparel brand continues to leverage its growing influence and reputation to give Black students and alumni the opportunity to proudly represent their favorite HBCU school.
Kamirria explained that the creation of Black & Scholared in 2020 was driven by a passion to build an HBCU legacy for her daughters. However, since its launch, the brand has become a beacon in the HBCU community. In addition to offering officially licensed HBCU college apparel (https://www.blackandscholared.com/pages/impact) that ranges from t-shirts to sweatshirts, hoodies, hats, tote bags and more, the brand also donates 15% of its profits to the HBCU community through merchandise sales, scholarship programs and close partnerships with community organizations.

Black & Scholared doesn’t just offer community-focused, purpose-driven clothing. The brand’s unique clothing combines style, substance and cultural pride. Black & Scholared has mastered its limitations: eye-catching HBCU college clothing that empowers the Black community through education and is constantly evolving to remain style-conscious and advocate for change through fashion. “Black & Scholared is now driven by a composite mission,” Kamirria said. “To make a difference in the Black community through fashion and create a sense of belonging that empowers Black students to not only pursue higher education, but to succeed.”
Black & Scholared believes in the transformative power of education and fashion and calls on people to join its HBCU pride movement. As the brand continues to grow, Kamirria has set his sights on securing more HBCU licenses to expand the brand’s reach. “After just over three years, we have already reached more than 500,000 scholars and donated over $30,000 to the HBCU community. We are proud of our ongoing efforts as part of our long-term commitment to celebrating Black excellence (https://www.instagram.com/blackandscholared/) and the promotion of academic achievement.”
