RICHMOND, Va. – Monday will be partly sunny and pleasantly warm, with afternoon highs around 80 degrees. Showers are possible in southern and southeastern Virginia. A few showers or thunderstorms are possible Tuesday, but otherwise the week will be mostly dry. Highs will average 80 degrees, with nighttime lows around 59 degrees. Humidity will remain comfortable for mid-August.
From Friday onwards the probability of rain will return and isolated showers and thunderstorms are to be expected until next weekend.
In the Tropics: We now have potential Tropical Cyclone #5 located about 800 miles east of Antigua as of late Sunday night. A tropical storm warning has been issued for parts of the Leeward Islands. The system is expected to move across parts of the Leeward Islands on Tuesday and approach the U.S. and British Virgin Islands Tuesday night. It is likely to become Tropical Storm Ernesto within the next 48 hours and could eventually strengthen into a hurricane. Computer model data agrees fairly well, predicting a right turn north of Puerto Rico and well east of the Bahamas. At this point, it looks like it will not impact the United States.
