We don’t know exactly when the 2024-25 NBA season schedule will be released, and we’re either dying of excitement or just bored — one of the two.
But it will be released soon and you can tell by the proliferation of NBA scheduling rumors flooding the Internet.
First it was NBA insider Marc Stein:
“It is said that one of the proposed options for Christmas is Timberwolves vs. Mavericks: Anthony Edwards vs. Luka Dončić.”
Then Shams Sharania of The Athletic virtually confirmed it on Thursday in a post on X (formerly Twitter), citing sources who said the five Christmas Day games will include Mavs vs. Wolves, as well as Spurs at Knicks, 76ers at Celtics, Lakers at Warriors and Nuggets at Suns.

Well, we’re curious. A rematch of the 2024 Western Conference Finals featuring two of the game’s best young guards? We can’t think of any better matchups to enjoy alongside a plate full of Christmas food.
The Mavericks, of course, made short work of Edwards’ Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals in May, advancing to the 2024 NBA Finals in five games. Dončić averaged 32.4 points per game in that series, shooting 47.3% from the field and 43.3% from 3-point range, grabbing 9.6 rebounds and dishing out 8.2 assists per game. He also averaged 2.2 steals in the series. Edwards scored 24.6 points on 43% shooting from the field and 40.6% from 3-point land while grabbing 8.8 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game in the five-game series. Edwards has since averaged 16.8 points per game for Team USA at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The Mavericks are 3-3 on Christmas Day in franchise history. Dallas has been on the NBA’s Christmas Day schedule every year for the past four seasons, winning the last two. The Mavs beat the Suns 128-114 in Phoenix last Christmas – the same night Dončić scored his 10,000th career point.
The Timberwolves have played on Christmas twice in franchise history – in 2016 and 2017.
The NBA schedule is expected to be released any day now. In the run-up to previous seasons, the entire regular season was released in the third week of August.
