MAGALIA, California — Cedarwood Elementary School in Magalia unveils its newly renovated and expanded campus just in time to welcome students back for the upcoming school year.
The school recently completed the construction of sixteen new classrooms to replace the old portable classrooms. This initiative was taken to address rising utility costs and provide modernized classrooms for students in preschool through sixth grade.
The school serves over 250 students in the Upper Ridge area. The Paradise Unified School District hopes to attract people back to the area by providing state-of-the-art campuses.
“Paradise Unified School District, the community in Paradise, Magalia and Sterling City, we are here to stay. I don’t think they’re going to get better facilities anywhere, so it’s very exciting when you think about the little town of Paradise, and now this is what we can offer students and our families,” said Tom Taylor, superintendent of the Paradise Unified School District.
The ambitious project had an estimated cost of $27 million. Over the course of six years, the district carefully upgraded each school. Their ultimate goal is to rebuild Paradise Elementary School, which was destroyed in the 2018 Camp Fire.
Finishing touches at Cedarwood are expected to continue throughout the month, adding the final details to the project.
The first day of school is August 14th and the campus is located in 6400 Columbine Street in Magalia.
