Watch: Elliot Page reflects on Viktor’s journey in the final season of The Umbrella Academy
Viktor Hargreeves, played by Elliot Page, has been through quite a lot over the course of The Umbrella Academy’s four seasons, but the series’ final outing will see him finally feeling more confident, he tells Yahoo UK.
The actor has seen his character’s evolution mirror his own real-life transformation. In the third season of the Netflix series, the character comes out as transgender and takes the name Viktor. In season 4, Viktor has a reckoning with the patriarch of the Hargreeves family, Reginald (Colm Feore), who too often bullied him and made his life difficult in alternate timelines.

Not only is Viktor able to confront his father figure for his actions, the two are also able to repair their relationship after Reginald recognizes the failings of his other self.
Page says he enjoyed exploring this before the show ended: “I’m so grateful to the writers because, like in other seasons, I was able to dive into such great scenes with Viktor, and this season we see him in a new place, much more comfortable in his own skin, much more confident.”
“But he still has things that he’s holding on to, and in many ways he’s able to express a lot of the things that he’s holding inside of him to a lot of people this season, and that’s a really big moment for him. So it’s really been so fascinating to dive into that whole aspect of this season as an actor.”

Regarding Viktor’s relationship with his father figure this time around, Page said, “I think that dynamic and what Viktor experienced with his father is what held him back for so long.
“So it was very entertaining to have the opportunity to deal with it in that way and then generally have those scenes with Colm Feore – because we haven’t had many together in all those seasons – just for selfish reasons as actors. But it felt incredibly full circle when we had those moments with Reginald.”
The Umbrella Academy is now available on Netflix.
