To address the financial difficulties of a popular retail chain, several stores in Wisconsin are being closed.
National big-box store chain Big Lots, known for offering customers the opportunity to shop inexpensive home goods, is apparently closing nearly 300 of its 1,389 stores nationwide, after initially announcing plans to close only about 40 locations due to the company’s financial difficulties. Big Lots reported a $114.5 million drop in sales from the first quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024 and saw an 84% drop in inventory last year.
To solve its financial problems and avoid bankruptcy, the company is apparently closing hundreds of stores across the US. While dozens of stores are closing in states like California, more than half of them are affected in Wisconsin.
Of the 12 Big Lots stores in the Badger State, seven are scheduled to close, according to the company’s website, which features a banner announcing the closure of the selected stores alongside an offer for sale. Here are all of the Big Lots stores in Wisconsin that are scheduled to close:
- 616 W. Johnson St., Fond Du Lac
- 3960 Mormon Coulee Rd., La Crosse
- N78w14511 Appleton Ave., Menomonee Falls
- 5415 Washington Ave., Mount Pleasant
