It’s been nearly a month since Elliot Page came out as transgender, and since he made his first post, friends, fans, and followers have flocked to support Page, who is finally comfortable enough to live authentically. On December 20, Page shared his first Instagram selfie since coming out, thanking his support system for the love and kind words. Naturally, this prompted people to even more Love and kind words – and we can support this cycle.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your love and support has been the greatest gift,” Page wrote in an Instagram caption. “Take care of yourselves. Be there for each other.”
Page also asked: “If you can, support @transanta and @translifeline. See you in 2021. Xoxo Elliot.”
TranSanta founder Indya Moore commented, “Love you Sm!” and Trans Lifeline added, “Thank you for the support!” Jennifer Garner wrote, “Major, lots of love to you Elliot.” Janelle Monáe, Ilana Glazer and filmmaker James Gunn all posted emojis to show their support.
Prior to this post, Page received high praise from allies such as Sir Ian McKellen, Cynthia Nixon and Jameela Jamil, who all shared his coming out post on Twitter. The post states: Umbrella Academy The star told fans that his preferred pronouns are “he”/”she” and that his “name is Elliot.”
Despite the relief Page felt after his public coming out, he said his joy was “fragile.” “The truth is that even though I feel profoundly happy right now and know how privileged I am, I’m also scared. I’m scared of the intrusiveness, the hate, the ‘jokes’ and the violence.”
By tagging TranSanta, an Instagram account that connects potential anonymous donors with trans youth in need during the holiday season, and Trans Lifeline, a phone support group for trans people, Page is taking the first step to bring positive attention to other trans people and using his platform to combat hate and offer help.
We can’t wait to see even more activism from Page in 2021, and just like the rest of the internet, we’ll be there to support his causes and give him a constant standing ovation.
