Next weekend, Players’ Weekend will take place across Major League Baseball. The series of games from August 16-18 will be the first Players’ Weekend that MLB has hosted since 2019.
As part of this year’s celebration, each player’s jersey number will be worn in a “youthful design” on the right side of their cap. Otherwise, the caps will look the same. Unlike the first iteration of Players’ Weekend, there will be no unique jersey designs or Player nicknames. Players can also wear customized clubs and cleats with personalized designs.
Each number from 0 to 9 gets its own unique style that is adopted throughout the league. I put together a graphic showing all ten of these designs:

While the uniforms will not change in 2024, the intent behind the weekend remains the same. As before, the weekend is designed to celebrate MLB players’ interests, backgrounds and charitable causes that are important to them. MLB players will not only be showcased through their statistics and on-field accomplishments, but their stories will be told in a way that is designed to appeal to young fans and casual fans of baseball.

In addition to the cap patches and custom player gear, there are a number of theme days for each of the three games during Players’ Weekend:
The weekend kicks off on Friday, August 16, with the theme of “FUN.” The day will highlight the fun aspects of players’ personalities, friendships and interests off the field, providing an easier look into the lives of these athletes and giving fans a glimpse into their personal likes, dislikes and the camaraderie that binds the teams together.
From fun to charity, Saturday, August 17, is all about CAUSES, charitable and community initiatives that are close to each player’s heart. Every game and broadcast that day will honor the athletes’ dedication to making a difference and highlight their impact beyond the baseball field.
The weekend concludes on Sunday, August 18th with Appreciation, a day dedicated to those who helped players reach the Major Leagues. We recognize the family members, coaches and mentors who supported these athletes on their journey to the Major Leagues.
The 2024 Little League Classic is also taking place this weekend in Williamsport, PA, where the New York Yankees will face the Detroit Tigers.

The first Players’ Weekend took place from 2017 to 2019. Initially with specially designed colorful sweater uniforms with the players’ nicknames on the back, the focus of the weekend has shifted to more personal storytelling and less on the personality on the field. The 2019 Edition of Players’ Weekend saw a move away from the colorful, playful pullover uniforms. Instead, we had players in all-black or white uniforms – hats, jerseys, pants, logos, names and numbers all black or white. The idea was to show the player’s individuality through their customized sticks, cleats and equipment, rather than the team uniform.
