Council Rock Newtown is just one win away from representing the Mid-Atlantic region in the Little League World Series.
The Pennsylvania state champions have dominated the standings so far, defeating Washington and Maryland by the most runs and have a game left on Friday. A win would secure them a spot in the Little League World Series, the pinnacle of Little League baseball played each summer in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
“They called out and said, ‘I’m representing the state of Pennsylvania,’ and I think everyone thought, ‘Wow,’ because this is a big state. It’s not a small state,” coach Brad Hamilton told the Inquirer. “To do something like this on the world stage at the Little League World Series would be a dream come true not only for the guys, but for the parents and all the work they put into it. To be able to share that with everyone would be fabulous.”
Here’s everything you need to know about the team and how to watch them play:
Council Rock Newtown plays in Newtown, Bucks County, about 30 miles from Center City.
Council Rock Newtown has made it to the Little League World Series once before, but that was nearly 20 years ago. It last won the Mid-Atlantic Region in 2005, when it knocked off Toms River, NJ, and advanced to Williamsport.
The Philadelphia area has been in top form lately. Media’s Little League made it to 2023. In 2021, the Upper Providence Little League from Delaware County made it to the Little League World Series.
The Little League World Series is a tournament for players under 12. The Council Rock Newtown players have been together since they were six or seven years old, Hamilton said.
The team is coached by Hamilton and assistant coaches Doug Peiffer and Kyle Neeld and includes (in alphabetical order): Gavin Caudill, Rocco DaBronzo, Wes Esteves, Brody Gage, Greyson Gage, Dean Hamilton, Saverio Longo, Tyler Neeld, Brayden Peiffer, Nick Schiller, Will Siveter, Ryan Uhl and Tyler Wexler.
Council Rock Newtown won the Pennsylvania district tournament and state tournament and will represent the state in the Mid-Atlantic Championship against teams from Maryland, Delaware and Washington, DC.
Who will they play against and when next?
Council Rock Newtown will play Washington, DC, which won the playoff game against Maryland on Thursday, at 3 p.m. Friday in Bristol, Connecticut. The game comes five days after Council Rock Newtown defeated Washington, DC 13-1.
“This is a really big moment because the first time we came to the States we finished third and the second time we were 11 we finished second,” said Neeld, who had three hits and pitched three innings of one run against Maryland on Tuesday. “Now we have a chance to get to the Little League World Series.”
The Mid-Atlantic Final will be broadcast live on ESPN and the ESPN app.
If they win and advance to the Little League World Series, Council Rock Newtown will play the Southwest Region champion in South Williamsport on Thursday at 7 p.m.
The LLWS runs from August 14-25. The full schedule is available on the LLWS website.
