The Umbrella AcademyRitu Arya admitted that she thought the romance between Five (Aidan Gallagher) and Lila was a joke. In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy The Lila actress admitted that she immediately rejected the idea when she heard about it.
“A writer somehow accidentally revealed to me at the last premiere that this thing with Lila and Five was going to happen,” Arya said.
“I thought they were joking because it seemed so outrageous to me that I stopped thinking about it. Then when I read the script, I just thought, ‘Oh my God, they weren’t joking.’ It was crazy.”
Although the connection between Five and Lila was “a big surprise,” Arya revealed why she believes the plot development may have been planned some time ago.

“It gives him meaning when it comes. I think that without a crisis, Number Five doesn’t know what to do with himself, and his worldview of life consists of fragments of a lot of different things he has seen, but with no place, no time, and few people.
“He can’t really relate to things,” Gallagher added. “He’s kind of drifting around aimlessly until he gets lost on the subway.”
When asked what it was like to explore the softer side of his character, Gallagher replied, “It was really satisfying for the character to see him end up in that place.”
