BOERNE, Texas – A Boerne baseball team is leaving San Antonio for the Little League World Series on Friday, and KSAT 12 was there for the farewell.
Fans, family and friends gathered at the HEB in Fair Oaks Ranch to bid the team a proper farewell.
On the eve of their departure for Williamsport, Pennsylvania, the team completed one final practice to prepare for their first competition on the national stage.
Head coach Justin Newson says he is proud of the hard work and dedication these kids have put into their sport and wants them to enjoy the moment of their success.
The team will fly out with United at approximately 6:25 a.m. on Friday. Once there, they will have some time to practice, see the sights and maybe even rest before their first big game next week, against the winner of the Mid-Atlantic Region on Thursday, August 15.
On Tuesday, the team from Boerne had a rematch against Louisiana in the championship game of the Southwest Regional Tournament, winning 6-3 and thus securing their ticket.
In the fourth inning, Doc Mogford hit a grand slam to left field that gave Boerne the win. Boerne scored six consecutive runs to end the inning.
Starting pitcher Julian Hurst recorded 10 strikeouts in Boerne’s win and held Louisiana to just three hits throughout the game.
Stay with GMSA and KSAT Sports to follow the team’s progress.
