Naim and Ruark could face competition. Cambridge Audio has announced the launch of its Evo One wireless music system solution, which could compete with the excellent Naim Mu-so 2 and the exceptional Ruark R410.
A premium all-in-one music system for listeners who want hi-fi sound without the hassle of parts and components, the Evo One aims to combine signature Cambridge Audio sound with a wealth of features and connectivity in a single, attractive device.
The Evo One contains a total of 14 drivers, including four 25mm silk-down tweeters, four 5.7cm aluminum-diaphragm midrange drivers and six 7cm woofers, configured to create “a truly expansive soundstage” that fills a room no matter where you or your system is placed. Power is provided by 700W of amplification, enhanced by digital signal processing, which Cambridge Audio says helps produce a clear, deep and controlled bass signature.
The Evo One is operated and controlled via the StreamMagic app, which allows the sound to be personalized using a seven-band equalizer. The StreamMagic platform enables direct streaming via Tidal, Spotify Connect, Deezer and Qobuz and supports high-resolution audio files of up to 32-bit/192 kHz via WiFi or an Ethernet connection. It is even Roon Ready and connectivity options are provided via Bluetooth, AirPlay 2 and Google Cast.
If you want to go wired, you can connect the Evo One to a TV via HDMI eARC and use it as an improvised soundbar, while a moving magnet phono preamp lets you connect a turntable directly. Classic inputs, including a line input for analog sources, an optical digital input and a USB-A port, round things off.
The Evo One has been designed to fit into any home design thanks to its natural yet elegant aesthetic. The honeycomb design of the grille protects the drivers and places less mass up front to avoid compromising the sound. A 17cm colour screen offers either a clock display, album art and information on the currently playing track, or a pair of virtual VU meters for that old-school hi-fi touch.
The Cambridge Audio Evo One is available now for £1299 / $1499 / €1499.
