People love television and seem to have loved these shows the most – at least that’s what the ratings for the series finales suggest.

A total of 106 million people watched the final of MASH. Yes, 106 million people, according to CNN. That’s nearly a third of the population of the United States. While it could happen, it’s safe to say that no television series – finale or otherwise – will ever reach anywhere near that many people.

The end of Cheers was the end of an era. The famous sitcom gathered 80.4 million viewers for its final farewell (h/t The New York Times). However, enthusiastic fans did not have to go without something similar for long. The following year Frasier Premiere. Although the whole gang wasn’t back together, it was more than enough to keep millions of viewers happy for the next 11 years.

At the time, it was the most-watched finale in television history, and that number remained until MASH finished. It is still a very impressive achievement.

After nine epic seasons of one of the most successful sitcoms of all time Seinfeld ended with an episode that many millions found truly boring and a terrible farewell.

People still love MacGyver to this day. The series had 22.3 million viewers for its final episode and was rebooted decades later. The reboot was quite successful, but nothing compared to the original season of the action series.
