Hey, JD Vance, your shameless audition to be Trump’s running mate worked. You fooled the con man, but you didn’t fool the majority of Americans. In fact, CNN recently reported that you’re averaging a net popularity rating of minus 6 points across all polls, a number far higher than any other vice presidential candidate since 1980, including Sarah Palin.
Wow, you’ve come a long way from basking in the aura of Yale Law School to rolling in the dirt with the likes of Sarah Palin.
Let us pause for a moment and remind our readers of a situation not so long ago when you were spot on in your assessment of Donald Trump.
Remember when you called Trump an “idiot” who was “unfit for the highest office in our land”? Or when you called Trump “America’s dictator”? Or when you called him “morally unconscionable”?
Or how about after the Access Hollywood tapes were released, where Trump boasted about being able to grab women by their genitals. They said, “Fellow Christians, everyone is watching us as we apologize for this man. Lord, help us.”
It gets better. Remember your line: “Trump is cultural heroin. He is harmful and is taking the white working class to a very dark place.” Bingo!
Just out of curiosity, JD. What do your fellow students at Yale Law School think about your decision to align yourself with a man who led an insurrection, wants to disregard the Constitution, and believes climate change is a hoax? Will they be honest with you, or will they keep quiet so as not to jeopardize their chances of getting a clerkship for a conservative Supreme Court justice?
And now, voilà!, you have become one of Trump’s staunchest defenders, an apologist through and through. For example, you claimed that Trump was “not a vindictive guy.” Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late Senator John McCain, disagreed with that statement, to say the least. She said, “Any member of the McCain family can attest firsthand that this is a blatant lie.”
And another “oops.” You claimed that people like Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are unhappy with their own lives and the choices they’ve made and want to make the rest of the country unhappy too.” You even suggested that people without children have no interest in the future of the country.
Hey, JD, this nonsense may amuse Tucker Carlson and the extreme MAGA folks, but as you yourself have found out, it doesn’t sit well with decent, thinking Americans. Trump will blame you if Taylor Swift, a childless cat owner, supports Kamala Harris.
Speaking of trash, that’s the label your new hero, Donald Trump, has attached to Kamala Harris. It seems your new father figure forgot his promise to “unite the country” after the assassination.
Speaking of assassination, remember the rioters on January 6 who chanted “Hang Mike Pence!” Pence had the audacity to abide by the Constitution and disobey Trump’s demand not to certify the 2020 election results.
Your willingness to go along with Trump’s big lie about the 2020 election has undoubtedly increased your standing in Trump’s eyes. But remember: Trump will not hesitate to throw you under the bus at the first opportunity if you displease him. In fact, he may even remove you from the ballot if he believes you are damaging his chances of winning the 2024 election.
You’re a big proponent of banning abortion, JD, which is a fallacy to many white evangelical Christians but is like castor oil to the vast majority of Americans.
In a January 2022 podcast, you speculated about a post-Roe America, saying, “Every day, George Soros sends a 747 to Columbus to load up disproportionate numbers of black women and get them to get abortions in California. And of course the left will celebrate this as a victory for diversity – uh, that’s kind of creepy.”
The scary thing is, JD, that people like you think you have the maturity, judgment and values to hold the second highest office in the land.
