Bloom-Carroll senior Ethan Thanthanavong is the fan-voted best high school football quarterback in Central Ohio, taking first place in a Dispatch poll that accompanied our look at the top 10 quarterbacks in the Columbus area.
Thanthanavong received 8,468 of 17,776 votes (47.64%), edging out junior Rocco Williams of Pickerington Central (20.53%). Junior Austin Buescher of West Jefferson (15.32%) and senior Jaystin Gwinn of Westerville Central (10.72%) were the only other players to receive at least 10% of the vote.
In his third year as a starter, Thanthanavong has thrown for a total of 3,388 yards and 33 touchdowns over the past two seasons, including 2,153 yards and 23 touchdowns last year, earning him third-team All-State honors in Division III.
Bloom-Carroll went 10-3 last season and lost to eventual state runner-up Watterson 20-10 in the Region 11 semifinals. In 2022, Thanthanavong helped the Bulldogs reach the state finals, where they lost 35-14 to Canfield and finished 14-2.
Region 11 should be a real challenge again this fall, as Hartley, Watterson, Licking Valley and Hamilton Township, Bloom-Carroll’s MSL-Buckeye rival, are among the teams hoping for postseason success.
Here is the Bulldogs’ 2024 schedule: Aug. 23 at Chillicothe, Aug. 30 vs. Teays Valley, Sept. 6 vs. Jonathan Alder, Sept. 13 vs. Amanda-Clearcreek, Sept. 20 at Liberty Union, Sept. 27 at Fairfield Union, Oct. 4 vs. Logan Elm, Oct. 11 at Hartley, Oct. 18 vs. Hamilton Township and Oct. 25 at Circleville.
