TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) – The Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office says they welcome back-to-school pictures, but they want you to be careful when taking photos.
“Try to avoid including the child’s full name, date of birth, name of the school your child attends and the name of the teacher on back-to-school posts,” said Abigail Christian, deputy public information officer for the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.
Keep the information entertaining and relaxed.
“Just stick to the more general, fun information, like their first name, maybe what they like best about school, what subject they like, what their favorite activity is. Just things like that so we can continue to see those funny posts,” Christian said.
Always pay attention to where you are taking photos.
“If you’re doing it in front of the school, maybe do it on a plain brick wall rather than one that has the whole school name on it. If you’re doing it at home, just be careful where your home address is on your house,” Christian said.
After you post, check who views and shares it.
“Check your friends list regularly and also keep in mind that your family and friends may share the post. If you make it public and they can share it, that also means that the people who follow them or are friends with them can see your post and information as well,” Christian said.
