QUINCY (WGEM) — A post on the Quincy Public Schools Facebook page showed 12 open positions in the district Wednesday morning. QPS Human Resources Director Lisa Otten said recruiting teachers has become more difficult each year.
But whether it is a full-time teacher or a substitute, the classrooms will be filled.
“Every year it gets a little bit harder to fill positions. Every year we have openings, every year we plan to fill those positions, whether it’s with substitutes or we look at some of our positions and consolidate them … we work very hard to find good substitutes as well. So we’re going to make sure every opening is filled with a good substitute,” Otten said.
Some of these open positions include a first grade teacher position at Rooney Elementary, an administrative position at Iles Elementary, and a math teacher position at Quincy High School.
Otten said that’s normal. Hiring continues into late summer and throughout the school year. She said there’s little cause for concern, but plenty of cause for excitement.
“Parents should be excited about the school year,” Otten said. “We are very excited about our new staff. We have great staff that have been with us for many years, so we are excited about the positions that have been filled. And we have high quality, wonderful staff that will support all of the students this year.”
Otten encourages interested parties to apply online at www.qps.org.
