Fans of Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin can breathe a sigh of relief as their representatives have confirmed that the couple is still in a relationship, just hours after rumors of a split first surfaced on August 16.
“They are happy together,” said the spokesman People of Johnson, 34, and Martin, 47, who have been secretly together for seven years.
This comes after the Daily Mail reported that the couple’s relationship had ended after being plagued by numerous rumors over the past year.
An insider at the media company claimed that Martin has “now accepted that the relationship is over – and it’s best to move on,” while in the midst of his Music of the Spheres world tour with Coldplay. Johnson was spotted in Malibu earlier this month walking her dog, but she wasn’t wearing her emerald engagement ring. “Chris and Dakota have been desperately trying to make their relationship work over the past few months,” the source added. “They will always love each other, but they have both come to the conclusion that the relationship cannot be sustained long-term.”
However, it seems that Johnson simply left the ring at home!
The source claimed that “they are both busy people” and their personal and professional lives “don’t naturally intertwine.” Now, however, it seems that the duo has managed to bounce back from a split that, according to several media outlets, briefly occurred earlier this year.
In June, the private duo was “going strong” again. “They’ve had ups and downs, but now they’re definitely back,” a source said People.
Johnson was first spotted wearing her emerald ring in December 2020, but her friends let everyone know that they “got engaged years ago but were in no rush to get married.” The 47-year-old musician and the 34-year-old actress maintained this status quo until their relationship hit a dead end. Martin was previously married to Gwyneth Paltrow until they “consciously separated” in 2014. Johnson seemed to fit perfectly into their blended family, which also included Martin and Paltrow’s children Apple, 20, and Moses, 18.
“I think because I grew up in a blended family it has become more natural, but I really wouldn’t have it any other way,” Johnson said Hectic in March. “I really wouldn’t do that. I love it. It feels very honest. It feels really authentic. Nobody is hiding anything.”
