Good left tackles are hard to find, but the Jacksonville Jaguars have two capable ones in Cam Robinson and Walker Little. Add to that the fact that they used a fourth-round pick on Javon Foster in this year’s draft, and they have enviable depth at the position. However, things will look very different for the Jags in 2025.
Robinson and Little are set to hit the open market next year, and both appeared in NFL Media’s article on the top 50 free agents in 2025. Gregg Rosenthal, the author of the list, points out that the former has long been a mainstay of the Jaguars’ offensive line, while the latter has shown he’s a starting-caliber left tackle. And he’s right.
Robinson, a second-round pick in 2017, never made the Pro Bowl but was as reliable as could be. Little, for his part, failed to carve out a prominent role in Jacksonville but did well when he was needed. Right now, the two are competing for the starting spot. The loser could be the swing tackle next season or be placed on the transfer list. Either path is reasonable.
The Jaguars struggled with injuries at the left tackle position last year. At one point, offensive guard Ezra Cleveland had to play on the sidelines. Team management may want to have as many options as possible to avoid a repeat of 2023. On the other hand, although less likely, it would make sense to trade Robinson or Little to a team that has a need at that position if the compensation is right.
On the other hand, Jacksonville might only feel comfortable trading Robinson or Little if Javon Foster shows in the preseason that he can hold his own.
For the sake of argument, let’s say the Jacksonville Jaguars keep both Cam Robinson and Walker Little in 2024. At this point, that seems like the most realistic path. What should they do next year? They could let both of them go as free agents and start over. They could bring one of them back and look for a potential reinforcement in the draft.
On the other hand, the Jags also need to strengthen their offensive line inside, so continuity at the left tackle position could benefit them. Another option would be to have Anton Harrison switch sides. He’s thrived on the right side, but he played primarily as a left tackle at Oklahoma. However, if he’s doing well, moving him back to his old position might not be the best course of action.
The only thing the Jaguars have going for them is that they have options. It’s up to them to choose the best one, but they especially need to make sure Trevor Lawrence’s blindside is protected for years to come. And if Cam Robinson or Walker Little (or both) are successful in 2024, the front office will have a big problem.
