About 60 children and 20 parents attended an event hosted by For the Need Foundation and WM on August 10 at the Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley.
Founded in 2004, For the Need provides hope and resources to youth experiencing poverty, homelessness, or other difficult life situations.
Activities on August 10 included volleyball drills, rope jumping, agility exercises and gymnastics. Participants also learned basic Taekwondo moves from Tigon’s martial arts instructors.
“The goal is to encourage (the children) not to give up, to incorporate exercise into their daily routine and to build a bond with their mentors,” organizers said.
Each participant received a skipping rope and some school supplies to take home.
The event was sponsored by WM and made possible by volunteers, the Boys & Girls Club of Moorpark & Simi Valley and Tigon Martial Arts.
