ARIZONA – The Arizona Cardinals – like every team – will be forced to trim their roster to 53 players before the regular season, which will present some difficult decisions in the upcoming decision-making process.
We have a general idea of who will establish themselves as a regular player and who has established themselves as a top player elsewhere.
This time of year, there are always a handful of names to keep an eye on for potential transfers, and Cardinals offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum was named by Bleacher Report as Arizona’s top candidate to transfer later in the preseason.
“After making new additions at both tackle positions over the last few offseasons, Kelvin Beachum could be on the way out in Arizona,” wrote Ryan Fowler.
“While Beachum brings experience and stability to Arizona’s offensive line, the Cardinals are still in a transition phase in the second year under Jonathon Gannon. The focus is on 2023 first-round pick Paris Johnson and new addition Jonah Williams. Trading Beachum for draft capital would give the Cardinals additional ammunition for next year’s draft.
“At 35, a starting spot for Beachum seems far-fetched. Although his role in Arizona is minimal at this point, Beachum could find a home on a team that has suffered injuries at the position during the preseason and pave his way to action.”
Arizona wouldn’t go out of its way to trade Beachum, but if an injury-plagued team wanted to call the Cardinals and talk business, general manager Monti Ossenfort would be all ears since both starting spots would be secured.
Beachum has started numerous games for the Cardinals since his arrival in 2020.
Although his best football years are behind him, he is still a strong second option behind players like Paris Johnson Jr. and Jonah Williams.
Would Arizona be confident that rookie Christian Jones would serve as an anchor on both sides of the line? If so, Beachum might be more upgradable.
