Council Rock Newtown is competing in the Little League World Series. The Bucks County team won the Mid-Atlantic Region in Bristol, Connecticut, Friday afternoon by defeating Washington, D.C., 5-1, earning its ticket to South Williamsport for the first time since 2005.
Although the game was moved up five hours due to a bad weather forecast, it was delayed twice because of rain – once in the middle of the third inning and again before the start of the fifth. But starting pitcher Saverio Longo was able to overcome the delays and throw four innings with one run.
Council Rock Newtown led 2-1 after the second delay, and in the bottom of the fifth inning, Ryan Uhl hit a bases-clearing double that brought in three important extra runs. Tyler Neeld, leading by four runs, quietly ended the game in the top of the sixth inning.
