Australian heavyweights of psych rock King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard let listeners immerse themselves in their “Field of Vision” on Tuesday with the latest single from their upcoming album Flight B741.
This album is the band’s 26th full-length release since their formation in 2010 and their first under their new label p(doom) Records.
Compared to the two previous singles, “Field of Vision” suggests that Flight B741 will be a musically more varied album for KGLW. The catchy electric guitar riff becomes even more electrifying in combination with keyboards and synthesizers. A catchy drum beat from Michael Cavanaugh There’s also a good old-fashioned guitar solo that adds to the 80s feel of the song.
Lyrically, the song is a literal testament to the band’s work ethic and focus on their singular vision, illustrated by references to Cyclopes, specifically Polyphemus, who was blinded by Odysseus in Homer’s Odyssey. Ambrose Kenny-Smiths This interpretation is supported by their cheeky singing, which makes it seem as if they are aware of and proud of their reputation.
Overall, “Field of Vision” is a sign of victory lap for the recently independent King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and will surely fit well on the new album as well as in the rest of their catalog.
