PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A Little League baseball team from Bucks County is on its way to Williamsport.
The Council Rock Newtown team representing Pennsylvania punched its ticket to the 2024 Little League World Series by defeating Washington, DC, 5-1 in the finals of the LLB Mid-Atlantic Region tournament in Bristol, Connecticut, on Friday.
Council Rock Newtown will represent the Mid-Atlantic region during the 2024 LLWS, which begins next week. The Little League World Series will be held August 14-25 in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The 12-year-old club from Newtown, Bucks County, has now won 18 games in a row and easily cruised through the LLB Mid-Atlantic Region tournament. The Little Leaguers swept DC 13-1 in their first game on Aug. 4 and defeated Maryland 11-1 on Tuesday.
Pennsylvania will face Southwest Region champion Texas West on Thursday, August 16 at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
This is the second consecutive Little League World Series in which a team from the Philadelphia area will represent the Commonwealth.
Last year, Delaware County sent its Media 12U Little League team to WilliamsportIn 2021, Delco Upper Providence Little League and Toms River East Little League, representing New Jersey, sent teams to the LLWS.
