CLEVELAND, Ohio — A drug task force and the Ohio State Highway Patrol seized more than $14 million worth of drugs and nearly $1 million in cash in separate raids along Interstate 70 this week.
According to the office of Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, these seizures are two of the largest ever conducted in the state. The task force is part of the Ohio Organized Crime Investigation Commission, whose goal is to seize drugs, weapons and cash derived from illegal activities.
“Drug traffickers seeking to wreak havoc in Central Ohio should know that our task force and partners are watching them,” Yost said in a statement.
The first seizure occurred Saturday when authorities stopped a commercial vehicle on Interstate 70 in Madison County. According to Yost’s office, police and agents seized 300 pounds of methamphetamine, over 17 pounds of cocaine and 30 pounds of marijuana.
According to authorities, the drugs had a street value of at least $14.6 million.
On Tuesday, investigators stopped another commercial vehicle they suspected of being involved in drug trafficking on I-70 in Clark County. Officers seized more than $935,000 in cash from the vehicle.
Last year, agents seized a total of 349 pounds of methamphetamine and nearly $5.5 million in cash.
