Hades2 has many characters that Melinoe will encounter throughout her journey. The personalities she meets all have their own charm and story, so players will constantly interact with them in the hopes of learning more. Aside from getting to know them, there are some that Melinoe can build bonds with beyond friendship. This means there are several characters that you can romance. Hades2, and it’s up to the players to figure out who. While some have already been established as possible romantic partners, there’s one who, should the character return, could be quite difficult to establish such a relationship with.

Several actors in Hades2 can enter into a romantic relationship with Melinoe, and there is a chance that more will come. One character who could return as a potential romantic partner is Thanatos, the embodiment of death and one of the more popular beings that Zagreus was able to become intimate with in the previous game. While some would jump at the chance to enter into a relationship with the character again, the sequel could make it much harder for players. The conditions for meeting Thanatos in the original Hades were already pretty hard to hit before, and the developers may decide to keep it that way and add a few new twists. If that happens, it’s likely that the character will be the hardest to woo of all.

Why it might be difficult to woo Thanatos in Hades 2

Romancing Thanatos in the original Hades can be considered quite a challenge for some, as even meeting the conditions to meet him is no guarantee that it will happen. In the previous game, players had to encounter Alecto or Tisiphone, characters who only appear randomly, before Thanatos became discoverable. After that, the character only appears in the game’s 3rd biome, with only a 1 in 10 chance of appearing per chamber. This shows that Thanatos is not something you can easily woo, and the developers may make it even harder for players in the sequel. Should he ever return as a romantic interest, there could be new possible conditions that must be met before Melinoe can become intimate with him, such as:

• Players may need to defeat Chronos, as the Titan of Time stated that he imprisoned those who belonged to the House of Hades forever.
• Similar to the previous game, Thanatos can only be encountered in a specific region and the chances of him appearing are very low.
• Chronos could use him in his war against Olympus. Melinoe might have to defeat him before he becomes an interactive character in the game’s central world.

If Supergiant Games wants to double down on Melinoe’s romance characters, then adding more interesting characters like Thanatos is the way to go. While unlocking him to start the romance process might prove difficult, it may be worth it if the developers make the process interesting and fun.

Why more characters should have a state like Thanatos before romance

Romanticization of the characters of Hades2 is as simple as talking to them, giving them gifts, and enjoying a bath or fishing with them. While it’s simple, the process can get quite monotonous. While the conditions that must be met before Thanatos becomes interactable may be seen as intrusive by some, it was at least appealing and different enough to make him seem unique compared to the rest. Supergiant Games could give other characters the same treatment, with Heracles being a good candidate since he already has a random spawn chance as a surface encounter. If done right, certain romantic prospects in the sequel could become fun events that players will look forward to, perhaps even making them more memorable than those in the original Hades.

Although there is no way to confirm the characters returned, Hades2 worth romancing, there is hope for someone like Thanatos. As he is one of Zagreus’ potential lovers and now possibly Melinoe’s, it would be a shame if Supergiant Games didn’t bring him back as he could make for interesting developments. Whether he will be difficult to seduce or not, his addition could enrich the game and many players would likely appreciate his return.
