Before the August 9 episode, two matches between the number one contenders for the title were announced for tonight’s WWE SmackDown.
On the August 2 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga of The Bloodline defeated DIY to win the WWE Tag Team Championships.
Meanwhile, LA Knight defeated Logan Paul to win the United States Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2024.
On August 9, WWE announced that tonight on Friday Night SmackDown there would be two number one contenders matches to determine the next challengers for the two new champions.
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa of DIY will face Pretty Deadly to determine the first challengers to The Bloodline for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
Andrade will then face Legado Del Fantasma’s Santos Escobar in a singles match to determine the number one contender for LA Knight’s United States Championship.
