Both King Charles and the Princess of Wales have been praised for their openness about their recent health issues, but according to one author, Queen Camilla originally wanted the King to keep his problems private.
In January, Buckingham Palace announced that Charles would undergo outpatient treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia. In February, the palace then announced that he had cancer.
“No further details will be released at this time other than to confirm that His Majesty does not have prostate cancer,” the palace said at the time.
During his cancer treatment, Charles initially withdrew from his royal duties, but returned in late April with a reduced schedule.
Experts: Prince William couldn’t stand Camilla after she destroyed King Charles’ marriage
“Queen Camilla was initially against the disclosure of his condition,” Robert Jobson, author of Our King: Charles III – The Man and the Monarch Revealed, told the Independent this week.
“But the king overruled their decision, seeing this as an opportunity to take the lead and encourage men with similar symptoms to seek medical attention in a timely manner.

“Following the monarch’s unveiling, there was a significant increase in searches related to prostate enlargement on the National Health Service website. NHS England’s benign prostate enlargement page received more than 26,000 visits in the 48 hours following the announcement, compared to a daily average of just 1,400.”
On Saturday, the palace posted photos on social media of Charles enjoying the Mey Games in Scotland.
“The King and spectators watched traditional Highland sports such as hammer throwing, sheaf throwing and stone throwing and presented a trophy to the winning team in the tug of war,” the post said.

Kate Middleton was also praised for her candor this spring when she announced her cancer diagnosis, after several months of speculation about her health and announcing in January that she would undergo abdominal surgery.
The princess returned to public view in June when she joined Charles and her family at Trooping the Colour, the king’s official birthday celebration.
Ahead of the event, she wrote a personal note on her Instagram page saying she was making “good progress” with her treatment and admitted that she has “good days and bad days.”
“I’m learning to be patient, especially in times of uncertainty,” she wrote. “To take each day as it comes, listen to my body, and give myself much-needed time to heal.”
