The Smyrna Public Safety Foundation issued the following press release:
The Smyrna Public Safety Foundation is hosting a car show and softball game as part of a free, family-friendly community event to support Smyrna’s first responders.
The foundation will host the Hotrods & Heroes car show and Battle of the Badges softball game on Saturday, September 7, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Smyrna First Baptist Church, 1275 Church Street in Smyrna.
“Our first responders give so much of themselves to keep the community safe and make it the incredible place it is,” said Denise Czarnik, executive director of the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation. “This event is the perfect way to celebrate these community heroes and have fun while doing it.”
The Battle of the Badges softball game will pit the Smyrna Fire Department and Police Department against each other for the 2nd Annual Chiefs Award. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
The Smyrna Fire Department is looking to win two games in a row after defeating the Smyrna Police Department in 2023 in a game that the emergency responders had so much fun they decided to play overtime.
During the Battle of the Badges, the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation will be accepting donations for its charitable fund, as well as offering raffles and opportunities for anyone who would like to donate directly to support a Smyrna Fire Department lieutenant and 20-year veteran of the force who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The Hotrods & Heroes car show will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Southern Wheels Unlimited Car Club is sponsoring the event and will select the top 15 prizes to be awarded starting at 2 p.m. A $20 registration fee will directly benefit Smyrna Emergency Services and discounts will be offered when registering multiple cars.
Applications are now open. Anyone who would like to show off their car can register at SPSFcar.givesmart.com.
The event will also feature a “Touch a Truck” activity where children can explore different types of trucks up close, including a fire engine, a SWAT team truck and a Barrow Wrecker tow truck.
The event will feature a variety of vendors and food will be available for purchase from Hotrods Popcorn, the Mighty Millie Foundation and others. Future Smyrna Public Safety Foundation events include Jazz Under the Gazebo on November 2 in downtown Smyrna and Shop with a Hero in December.
