On the occasion of the anniversary of the King and People’s Revolution, King Mohammed VI pardoned 685 people, some imprisoned and others at large, who had been convicted by various courts in the Kingdom, according to a press release from the Ministry of Justice.
In addition, the King pardoned 4,831 people who were convicted, prosecuted or wanted in cases related to cannabis cultivation and who met the necessary requirements for a pardon.
The distribution of prisoners who benefit from the royal pardon is as follows:
Pardon of the remainder of the prison sentence for 15 prisoners.
Reduction of prison sentences for 529 prisoners.
Conversion of life sentences into fixed-term prison sentences for four prisoners.
Of the freedmen, 137 were granted a royal pardon, which is described in detail below:
Pardon of prison sentences or the remainder of them for 26 people.
Prison sentence pardoned while maintaining fines for 8 people.
Remission of fines for 98 people.
Pardon of both the prison sentence and the fine for four people.
Pardon of the fine and the remainder of the prison sentence for 1 person.
In addition to the humanitarian aspects, the royal pardon of the 4,831 people convicted, prosecuted or wanted in cases related to cannabis cultivation is intended to facilitate their integration into the new strategy adopted by the provinces concerned following the creation of the National Agency for the Regulation of Cannabis-related Activities.
