Food and drinks are ready, shows have been selected, and a massive 27-meter-high LED dome is ready to be illuminated for a variety of sporting events, arts and entertainment.
Los Angeles-based Cosm is nearing its August 31 opening date, which is set to usher in a new era of entertainment. The venue, located in the Grandscape at The Colony, is designed to bring customers experiences closer to sitting courtside at a basketball game or watching Cirque De Soleil.
The company is still trying to finalize additional media rights deals to secure more content. In the meantime, the first events at the venue are planned here.
First college football games: Sat., Aug. 31
Cosm’s first event and screening begins at 11 a.m. and will feature a live matchup between the No. 14 Clemson Tigers and the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs. Doors open at 10 a.m. Guests have several options for tickets.
The most basic package, called the Hall Club Pass, starts at $22, but comes with some strict restrictions. Guests have access to the first and second floors and the third-floor deck, but are not allowed into the dome.
The Cosm Access Pass starts at $39 and offers the same privileges as the Hall Club Pass, but this pass grants guests access to the dome via general admission. This pass does not include seating in the dome.
Finally, there will be very different seating locations in the dome. The most basic single ticket for the dome is $77. But there are packages that cost as much as $759 for six tickets, or $126.50 per ticket, on the second floor. Andrew Schluterman, vice president of Dallas-based HKS Architects, the firm that designed Cosm, said the best seats in the house are on the second floor.
Later, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (number 7) will travel to College Station to face the Texas A&M Aggies (number 20). Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the game starts at 6:30 p.m.
Similar ticket prices apply for the Aggies’ game against the Fighting Irish, but tickets for the second floor of the dome are already sold out.
Football is coming: Sun., Sept. 1st
The first football match between English Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool starts at 10am, doors open at 9am.
Tickets for the event are cheaper than college football: The Hall Club Pass and the Cosm Access Pass cost $11 and $22, respectively.
These two options are essentially the only options left, as seating on levels 1 and 2 is sold out. The only seats available on the third floor are wheelchair accessible seats, which cost between $44 and $55.
There is also a college football game between the USC Trojans (number 23) and the LSU Tigers (number 13) at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for all three stadiums and passes are still available at a similar price to other college football games.
Tennis’ Cosm debut: Mon., Sept. 2 – Wed., Sept. 4
The venue will host the US Open Round of 16 and Quarterfinals from September 2-4. It is currently the cheapest sporting event offered at the venue, with the Hall Club Pass and Cosm Access Pass costing $6 and $17, respectively.
Prices for seats inside the dome range from $33 for a single ticket on the first floor to $363 for a six-ticket package on the second floor.
Art and teaching materials, September 5
Art and educational materials are expected to be a big part of Cosm’s future growth strategy, with the company’s first foray kicking off that day with a double-bill of its exclusive films “Orbital” and “Liquidverse.”
“Orbital” is a film by director Guy Reid that tells the story of Earth from the Big Bang and beyond, with voice-overs by astronauts. “Liquidverse” is a symphony by artist and composer Ricardo Romaneiro that takes visitors through the intricacies of the universe using liquid oils and chemical reactions captured in a petri dish.
The Cosm Access Pass and Hall Club Pass are not available for this event. Tickets for the dome range in price from $44 for a single ticket on the first floor to $330 for six tickets on the second floor, for an average price of $55 per ticket.
There will be one performance on September 5th and then further performances on September 12th and 19th. Doors will open one hour before the event begins, which starts at 12pm. There will be a 15-minute intermission between performances.
First Cirque du Soleil show: Wednesday, September 11
One of the world’s largest circuses, Cirque du Soleil, will open its virtual tent on September 11 with a performance of its timeless show “O.” The contemporary circus based in Canada has been performing the show for over two decades and has grossed over a billion dollars.
It tells the story of a young Sicilian boy who is looking for adventure and finds it in a strange world above a 6 million litre pool. It is a 90 minute show that is an artistic mix of romance, drama and surrealism, with water playing a role.
Tickets for the September 11 show are not yet on sale. But there are two more shows on September 18 and 25, both starting at 8:30 p.m. Tickets range from $55 for a single first-floor seat to $462 for six seats on the second floor. Each ticket in this package is $77.
Cosm Access Passes or Hall Club Passes are not available for this event.
