Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s three-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, is growing into a confident little girl with a strong voice – and her parents couldn’t be prouder.
The Duchess of Sussex reflected on Lilibet’s evolution on Sunday during a panel discussion titled “African American Women and Power: Voices for Equality” with Colombian Vice President Francia Márquez, during the final leg of the couple’s four-day tour of Colombia.
“I know what it feels like when you don’t use your voice when you need to be heard or you have something to say,” Markle told the crowd as she discussed empowering women of color.
“I encourage our daughter to do this – she found her voice at the age of 3 and we are so proud of that.”
The Duke of Sussex, 39, and Markle, 43, have Lilibet and son Prince Archie, 5, together, although their children did not join them on the tour and instead stayed at home in Montecito, California.
Like Lilibet, the former Suits actress expressed that she drew strength from her mother, Doria Ragland.
“I find inspiration in the strong women around me, of course my mother is one of them,” she said. “My approach is less about the struggle and more about how we present ourselves in a room and flood things with love, kindness and generosity.”
“These are the elements that inspire me,” she added.
Markle opened the discussion by speaking to the crowd in Spanish.
“Because we are in your country, my husband and I can feel this embrace from Colombia – it is incredible,” she said in Colombia’s native language.
The American Riviera Orchard founder continued, “The culture, the history – all of it was a dream – this trip was a dream. I can feel this community and that’s the feeling that’s the best right now.”
The event began with emotional testimonials from local female leaders from the Cali region who spoke about how black women can overcome adversity in the Colombian labor market.
The Afro-Colombian musicians Nidia Gongora and Cynthia Montano performed for the audience at the end of the chat.
There was also a fashion show featuring local designers including Consuelo Cruz Arboleda, Nelia Preciado and Nayla Palacios.
Harry and Markle certainly left their mark during their short visit to South America.
The author of “Spare” and his wife seemed completely in love with each other, as they continuously showed their affection throughout the entire trip.
The co-founders of the Archewell Foundation also visited a kindergarten class, demonstrated their dance steps and took part in a drumming lesson.
Markle also made an impression in terms of fashion: she wore the butterfly earrings of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana and a chic silk blouse by her close designer friend Victoria Beckham.
