When it comes to debut romances, Laura Moher knocked it out of the park with Curves for days so the excitement for What she has was real.
While the Greetings from Galway The series can be read in any order. It is best to read the first book, Curves for days before you What she has. You get more context on the couple featured in this book and honestly it’s a solid love story.
Anyway, we are here to talk about it What she has that feels like the ultimate summer read, or one that could be read in the fall too. With the cake on the cover and the seafoam green color, it just feels like the ultimate summer romance.
With that being said, I would like to thank Sourcebooks Casablanca for sending me an ARC as I loved this book and can’t wait to share my thoughts.
What she has begins with us meeting Joe sitting at his mother’s bedside as she confesses a secret from the past. After her death, we see Joe reunite with June in the town where he lived as a child. June is now a successful business owner and chef in her own restaurant.
Although Joe and June didn’t spend much time together as teenagers, they were madly in love with each other and Joe left her immediately after they took their relationship to the next level. The reunion stirs feelings in the two, and Joe and June both want a second chance at what they had. However, the reunion isn’t as easy as the two imagine.
All I’m saying is that the way Laura Moher describes their relationship was so real that I was absolutely obsessed with it. The two didn’t fall in love right away or go back to bed. Their relationship had its awkward moments that can happen when you’re just getting to know each other. If anything, it made me appreciate their romance even more because it took a lot of work to get there.
Additionally, Joe and June both deal with other traumas from the past. Joe was abused as a child and it still affects him as an adult. June went through a dark period after Joe left, including depression and an eating disorder. If you are sensitive to these topics, I would skip this story, as the story revolves around the loss of a parent, grief, homelessness, and homophobia. If you can handle that, What She’s Having is worth reading.
This book wasn’t just about their romance, as Joe and June took two teenagers under their wing to help them. Although the storyline with Sam and Maisie was particularly heartbreaking, Laura Moher did a wonderful job of pulling it off. In the end, everyone got their happy ending, but not without some hard work to get there. All I can say is that I hope she writes more in this series, as I absolutely loved this book and would love to have more stories set in this world.
Ultimately, What she has was exactly what I needed when I picked it up. It grabbed me immediately and I fell in love with these characters and their stories. If you love a tight family, a sweet romance and lots of good food, you won’t be disappointed with this book by Laura Moher.
What she has by Laura Moher is now available in bookstores.
