LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – It’s the beginning of a new era at McNeese State University as Dr. Wade Rousse begins his first semester as president of the university. We spoke with him this morning about his plans for the future.
Yesterday, August 19, was the first day back for McNeese students and some were even personally given a ride from the parking lot to campus by Dr. Rousse.
He says yesterday was a huge success and it was so inspiring to see the returning students getting back into the swing of things and the new students learning about all the wonderful things the campus has to offer.
One of his concerns for the future, he says, is declining enrollment. But he says the worst is now over. McNeese’s strategy to combat this decline is now three-pronged, focusing on student recruitment, retention and job placement.
Dr. Rousse also says that he and his wife have decided to live in the dorms, specifically Burton Hall, for the time being to get a feel for the students’ daily lives and to improve access.
It’s still Howdy Rowdy Week for students and there are plenty of events to help you get back into the swing of things and learn more about campus organizations. You can find a list of events HERE.
