BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) – The Canadian air is the reason. End of story. However, it’s still August here in the Mountain State, and that means the days are still long and the sun is still strong (i.e. the sun is high in the sky, generating more heat per unit area of the NCWV). So once warmer air (from the southern U.S. states) returns and the clouds break up and provide plenty of sunshine, we will indeed feel the heat of August once again.
So, on Tuesday and Wednesday, Canadian air will move into the Eastern United States, including the Appalachians. Clouds will break up and give way to sun on Tuesday, meaning skies should clear across the board by evening, although there will be periods of sunshine in the morning. This trend will continue overnight into Wednesday morning. Low humidity, clear skies and calm winds will send temperatures down to 4 degrees! The record low for August 21 is 46 degrees set in 1940, and we’re predicting a low of 47 degrees. Some mountain peaks could drop as low as 3 degrees. However, sun and a few clouds on Wednesday afternoon will warm us up to 70 degrees for most and 60 degrees in the higher elevations.
Thursday will be another cool August morning with similar lows to Wednesday. Again, sunny weather will bring our area to temperatures between 75 and 80 degrees with low humidity. Sun will be plentiful on Friday and Saturday, but August sun will bring NCWV temperatures between 80 and 85 degrees again. We’re keeping the forecast for Sunday and Monday dry, but clouds will share the skies with sun and wetter conditions and highs well above 75 degrees.
