Shawn Michaels praises the NXT champion.
Earlier this year, Ethan Page showed up on NXT, attacked then-NXT Champion Trick Williams, and later won the championship himself at NXT Heatwave. Page signed with WWE after leaving AEW, and now Shawn Michaels has spoken out about Page’s WWE contract.
Speaking to Good Karma Wrestling, Shawn Michaels noted that Page had “untapped potential.”
“When I found out he was available, I immediately started looking around. He’s got a ton of experience, he’s experienced and trusted. Someone who knows what he’s doing out there. At the same time, I didn’t know everything about him, but you see him and say, ‘I think there’s a lot of untapped potential.’ You hear different stories. You never know what’s true. You just see potential and think, ‘Has he ever gotten the chance? Let’s find out if that’s the case.’ If he doesn’t measure up, then you hold back and end up at the bottom of the list. He’s a guy we gave a chance to, he took a chance with us and now you see it’s been pretty successful. He’s a guy that definitely brings experience that we don’t often have in NXT, but also a guy that is so enthusiastic and passionate when someone believes in him. When you put those two together, it’s a great combination because he’s a guy that feels like he has a place where he’s valued and invested in. Then we also have the level of experience that we need here in NXT.”
On tonight’s edition of NXT, Wes Lee, Joe Hendry and Pete Dunne will try to become the number one contenders for Ethan’s championship.
