CBS host Gayle King said Wednesday that Vice President Kamala Harris is “uniquely qualified” to be president of the United States and heaped praise on the candidate, to whom she has donated in the past.
“When I hear people say I’m going to vote for Kamala Harris because she’s a black woman, she’s so much more than that. She’s so uniquely qualified to be president of this country,” King said, not appearing to reveal to viewers that she had financially supported her and other Democrats in the past.
According to Open Secrets, King donated $9,000 to Harris’ campaign in the 2010 California Attorney General election, including $2,500 in late 2009 and $6,500 in 2010. Harris narrowly won the election and rose to national prominence.
King, co-host of “CBS Mornings,” criticized the idea that Harris should only be supported because she is a black woman.
TRUMP campaign trolls Harris and publishes her website with political views after weeks of silence
“I believe no one should vote for someone because of their race, color or gender. You vote for people based on values that align with your own and on their qualifications,” she said.
The CBS anchor has been a Democratic donor in recent years, including vacationing with the Obamas. As NewsBusters noted in 2020, she donated over $33,000 to DNC Services Corp and $7,300 to Barack Obama. According to Open Secrets, her last donation to Democrats was in 2011. She is also close friends with Oprah Winfrey, the liberal billionaire and media mogul who spoke at the convention on Wednesday, and Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.
Fox News Digital has reached out to CBS News for comment.
King’s remarks came on the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Among those speaking that evening were former President Bill Clinton, Oprah Winfrey and Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

Since President Biden announced his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, Harris has enjoyed a flood of positive media coverage, even as she has avoided official press conferences and interviews.
A new Associated Press poll found that 48% of Americans currently have a very or somewhat positive opinion of Harris, an increase from 39% at the beginning of the year.
According to a study by the conservative Media Research Center, coverage of Harris on the three major networks was 84 percent positive, while coverage of former President Trump was 89 percent negative.
The MRC assessed Comments from reporters, anchors and other guests on the evening shows of NBC News, ABC News and CBS News since July 21.
