Jane Fonda saw the separation of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck coming.
The “protective” 86-year-old shared her “concerns” about the romance in Lopez’s 2022 documentary “The Greatest Love Story Never Told.”
Fonda initially made it clear that she “really, really, really wanted” the rekindled relationship to “work” and that she was “interested in its success.”
However, she noted, “It feels too much like you’re trying to prove something instead of just living it. You know, every other photo is of the two of you kissing and hugging.”
Lopez, who starred with Fonda in 2005’s “Monster-in-Law,” replied: “That’s just the way we live our lives.”
The 55-year-old Grammy nominee described her friend as “very protective” and worried that Lopez was “putting herself at risk of being beaten up again.”
Fonda added that she became “really scared” when she read headlines about Affleck, 52, looking “unhappy.”
Lopez also laughed at this concern, joking that her husband was the “symbol of the harassed man” on the Internet.
Fonda then brought her concerns to Lopez’s manager Benny Medina, who is allegedly “hostile” to Affleck and “can’t stand” him.
Fonda explained at the time how important it was to keep love “sanctified” rather than “exaggerating it” in public.
The Golden Globe winner wasn’t the only one to express doubts. Affleck did so too, reflecting on his and Lopez’s first engagement from 2002 to 2004.
The actor admitted that they are “trying to compromise” on the “boundaries… in terms of the press.”
Lopez filed for divorce from her “Jersey Girl” co-star on Tuesday, the same day she married Affleck in Georgia two years earlier.
The separation had been brewing for a long time: Lopez gave April 26 as the date of their separation – and Page Six confirmed in July that the two had been separated for “months”.
A source recently told us that Lopez feels “angry” and “humiliated” since Affleck “was the one who took the initiative to reunite” in 2021.
