The video authentically shows participants at the Democratic Party Convention covering their ears as demonstrators read out the names of the children killed in Gaza.
On the third night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, an X-account posted a video showing attendees covering their ears as protesters outside the convention center read the names of children killed in Gaza. At the time of this writing, the post has been viewed more than 6.9 million times.
The same account also posted the video on its TikTok and YouTube channels, where it received more than At the time of writing, 475,000 total views.
We investigated the claim and found that the video does not appear anywhere online before August 21, 2024, and does not appear to be AI-generated or otherwise digitally manipulated. We ran several frames of the video through AI detection software Hive, which found that they were likely not AI-generated.
The account that posted the video, BreakThrough News, says in its bio that it “Popular Movements and World Politics”. On the organization’s websiteit is stated:

Several of the people featured in the video wore badges attached to lanyards that visually matched those seen in photos available at Getty Images: proof that the attendees were indeed DNC 2024 participants.

The news agency Middle East Eye also reported on the video.”“Some delegates and participants acknowledged the chants to show their support,” the article said. “Others pressed their fingers to their ears or held up signs showing their support for Israel.”
