Today BradCast: Democrats appeal to voters with popular policy proposals and bring down the crowds at the DNC in Chicago, while Trump and the Republicans plan to rig an election they seem certain to lose at the ballot box. (This summary is followed by an audio link to the full show.)
About our reporting in today’s program…
- Democrats are clean Donald TrumpThe Republican watch of late has improved in a number of quantifiable measures: ratings at the convention compared to those of the Republicans last month, poll numbers, viewership, fundraising and volunteer efforts to get voters to the polls. As silly as it may seem to compare some of these things between the two parties, it’s more important than you might think that we’re doing so. Because Trump is lying about all of these things now. It’s part of the setup to use lies about all of these things to support a post-election campaign — if he loses at the ballot box — to claim that it was stolen from him “again.” To then wreak havoc on the certification of Electoral College Votes in the hope of shifting the decision to the state parliaments or courts or, most likely, to the US House Where republican will likely control enough state delegations to put Trump in office, even if they don’t have a majority of seats in the chamber. Yes, I understand all of this Sounds like conspiracy theory nonsense. But the same thing was told to us in late 2020 and early 2021 when we warned about what was likely to happen on January 6. Moreover, Trump and his allies explain the trick out loud basically every day, just as Trump did to his supporters in North Carolina on Wednesday: “Our main focus is not getting voters to the polls … We have all the votes you need.”
- In Tuesday’s broadcast I described in detail how republican hoped that the corrupt, right-wing activists Supreme Court of the United States The majority would give them the OK in an emergency resolution to remove more than 40,000 voters from the Arizonajust a few weeks before the start of early voting in the crucial swing state, where Joe Biden won in 2020 by just over 10,000 votes. Today, the Supreme Court announced its decision, which is largely—but not exclusively—good for the state’s voters and prevents the worst of what Republicans had hoped to accomplish. For now. We analyze the somewhat confusing (and poorly reported) details of their brief shadow decision (PDF), along with the observation that the justices Thomas, Alito And Gorsuch would have abolished decades of precedents and enabled all of voter suppression that the Republicans were seeking. And that the Republican judge Amy Coney-BarrettInterestingly, he voted with all of the court’s liberal justices (all of whom are now women) to block the worst of the purges, and if it had been up to the four of them, he would have blocked the entire Republican plot.
- It was another exuberant, superstar-studded third day in the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Wednesday evening, where Minnesota governor Tim Walz formally accepted the party’s nomination as Kamala Harris‘ Vice Presidential candidate. He brought the house down in his joyful, pitch-perfect acceptance speech, becoming both America’s father and America’s coach. But not before people like Oprah Winfrey roused the crowds and even joined a number of Republican heroes, such as the former Lieutenant Governor of Georgia. Geoff Duncanwho was there on Wednesday to reach out to undecided, independent and even Republican voters and, as Walz put it, help open “a new chapter” of the Trump era. We’re publishing longer excerpts today.
- Finally, Desi Doyen joins us for our latest Green News Reportas the Democrats are asking questions of Climate change and climate protection in the fabric of this week DNC and, as she also reports, not a moment too soon …

NOTE: We will withdraw from The BradCast (And Green News Report) for a much-needed breather next week before we return after Labor Day for the sprint to Election Day! (I could have said “sprint to Finish line“, because as indicated at the beginning of today’s program, November 5 is most likely not even close to the finish line this year!)
