The Summer Biathlon World Championships have already started with junior competitions. Tomorrow there will also be competitions for adults – super sprints. The IBU has slightly changed the competition format. Now the qualification will no longer take place in sprint mode, but in mass start mode, so that the athletes will be divided into several groups.
The 6 best of each race + 6 “lucky losers” (athletes outside the top 6 with the best time), 30 in total, qualify for the final.
The men’s qualification starts at 08:15 +25 minutes for each group
Women’s qualification at 11:00 a.m., also +25 minutes for each group.
Among the interesting athletes I would like to highlight:
- Group 1: Andreys Rastorguevs, Adam Vaclavik, Olli Hiidensalo
- Group 2: Fabien Claude, Vladimir Iliev, Vytautas Strolia
- Group 3: Jesper Nelin, Florent Claude, Anton Dudchenko
- Group 4: Emilien Claude, Michal Krcmar, Dmitryi Pidruchnyi, Otto Nivenius
A total of 108 athletes. This means that there are unprecedented numbers of biathletes competing at a Summer World Championship. In previous years there were 40-50.
Women will have such strong athletes:
- Group 1: Paulina Fialkova, Baiba Bendika, Alina Stremous
- Group 2: Tuoli Tomingas, Tereza Vobornikova, Camilla Zhuk
- Group 3: Lotte Lie, Anastasia Merkushina, Suvi Minkinnen,
- Group 4: Lucy Charvatova, Yulia Dzhima
There are 106 women in total.
In general, teams from Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, Poland, Estonia, Finland and Kazakhstan are strongly represented.
The final races begin:
- 14:45 – Men, Super Sprint Final
- 16:00 – Women, super sprint final.
