Law enforcement authorities launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from an individual who claimed to have been defrauded of approximately $18,500 during an intimate partnership with the defendant.
According to the Essex County OPP, the victim had entered into a relationship with the accused and engaged in “intimate activities.”
The defendant then allegedly claimed to be pregnant and “demanded” money from the victim to cover medical expenses.
The Essex County OPP detachment in the community of Lakeshore was made aware of the scam in February.
In an emailed statement Thursday afternoon, Essex County OPP said the 26-year-old Windsor resident was charged with fraud over $5,000 on June 6.
